The scheme has been delivered in Derby for the last three years and it has helped young people develop skills and experience for future careers in the film industry.

QUAD said: “We provide accessible opportunities for young people from Derby to develop both their creative and employability skills through accessible experiences with arts and culture, particularly in film and digital media.”

The course requires no qualifications and students in further education are eligible to apply

Young filmmakers on the course collaborate to produce a short film about topical, hard-hitting issues that resonates with themselves and the audience.

Short films from BFI Film Academy alumni are currently being exhibited in the QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces until August 27 for some inspiration or to support the young filmmakers.

The free exhibition runs from 10am-9pm each day with a collection of nine short films to watch.

After the course, students will achieve a nationally recognised qualification and can receive mentoring or traineeship programmes to support their journey into the film industry.

Many graduates of the BFI Film Academy have gone on to work on the sets of major films in various film industry roles.
