Did you know that one of the UK’s largest open-air markets is just a short drive away from Derby?
Found in the traditional town of Chesterfield, it also boasts the title of one of England’s oldest markets hailing back to at least 1165.

Hide AdChesterfield sits around 24 miles from Derby, making it the ideal place for a day out.
The town hosts a variety of markets all year round, one of the most popular is the flea market that takes place every Thursday.
One of the biggest weekly flea markets in the country, there are regularly more than 120 stalls.
Open from 9am to 4pm, people can enjoy mooching around the stalls to hunt for a bargain.
You can grab a coffee from The Market Café in Chesterfield Market Hall and walk just a few yards, to nearby stalls, pick up some hidden treasures such as a second hand piece of Pearson’s pottery, Goss crested china, vintage costumes, collectables and more.

Hide AdKing John granted a Charter in 1204, giving Chesterfield the right to hold a market twice a week.
The original market site was by the Crooked Spire church, but early in the 1220s it outgrew this area and was gradually moved to its current location.

Several markets are running over the course of the month at the central Market Place.
Parking is available at several locations including one near the train station, which is a five-minute walk to the town centre.
