Derbyshire’s dining scene, filled with acclaimed eateries, is getting another accolade. Three of the county’s restaurants have made it onto a top 100 restaurants list in the UK.

The list was curated by OpenTable, an online restaurant reservation service. Three Derbyshire restaurants appearing on its list are A Tavola Gastronomia Siciliana in High Peak, Cavendish Restaurant At Chatsworth in Bakewell, and Stones Restaurant in Matlock

This means the Derbyshire restaurants feature alongside fine dining giants Michel Roux Jr, Gordon Ramsey, Adam Handling, Claude Bosi and more. OpenTable say they compiled the list from over 1.2 million OpenTable diner reviews and used metrics including diner ratings, percentage of reservations made in advance, and five-star reviews.

Making the announcement online, OpenTable wrote: "The list highlights some of the top spots favoured by diners this year. The diners in the UK have spoken."

A Tavola Gastronomia Siciliana

One of the restaurants on the list is A Tavola Gastronomia Siciliana which is chef Alessio Muccio’s third eatery. It serves pasta, gelato, and cakes that the website says are made fresh onsite using traditional Sicilian recipes.

Their fennel sausage which is said to be a hit with diners is sourced from Sicily, whilst produce from local suppliers renders dishes as ‘always fresh and authentic.’

Another eatery to make this top 100 UK list is Cavendish Restaurant At Chatsworth. The luxurious setting in picturesque 18th century stables is a sign of what diners can expect which serves lunches featuring seasonal produce from the Estate and local providers, alongside luxurious afternoon teas.

Chris Bailey-Jones, Head of Catering and Events at Chatsworth & The Devonshire Group, said: “For so many of our guests, a trip to Chatsworth isn’t complete without a visit to the Cavendish Restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea. Its setting in our 18th-century stables gives guests a sense of the rich heritage of the surrounding house and garden.

"We’re proud to be able to offer seasonally curated menus of locally sourced produce, much of which is grown in and inspired by our kitchen garden and the wider estate. It’s great to see the team’s hard work be honoured in this way, and we look forward to continuing to welcome guests both locally from Derbyshire and beyond.”

Stones Restaurant

Stones is another restaurant named on the list, whose modern British dining ethos is a hit with diners. People can enjoy food in the ‘intimate sophisticated basement’ whilst a riverside terrace is also great for al fresco dining.

Stones is run by Head Chef Kevin Stone, his wife Jade, and sister Katie Temple. The restaurant says they regularly change ingredients to ‘reflect the very best in seasonal and local produce.’

Speaking about Stones’ top 100 accolade, a spokesperson from Stones said: “Recognition of any sort is a welcome boost to the committed, hard-working kitchen and service team at Stones. What makes this award particularly encouraging is that it’s prompted by actual diners who travel to us here in Matlock and enjoy what we do.
