Back in the 90s, the Peak District was the backdrop to a peak-time medical drama called Peak Practice.

Peak Practice was centred around a GP surgery in Cardale - a small fictional town in the Derbyshire Peak District and the doctors who worked there (a bit like the BBC’s Doctors).

It was based in the Derbyshire village of Crich, although certain scenes were filmed in other nearby towns and villages including Fritchley, Matlock, Belper, Duffield and Ashover.

The final series it was filmed in Staffordshire in the village of Longnor.

The series which originally began in May 1993 ran for 12 series, eventually airing for the final time in January 2002.

It originally starred Kevin Whately as Dr Jack Kerruish, Amanda Burton as Dr. Beth Glover, and Simon Shepherd as Dr. Will Preston - although the roster of doctors would change many times throughout the series.

Big names to star in the series over the years include ITV favourite Hugh Bonneville, who went on to star in Downton Abbey and alongside Hugh Grant in Notting Hill.

When it ended a spokesperson for Carlton told The Guardian: “Peak Practice gets good viewing figures but we decided it was time to move on. It has been going for nearly 10 years and we needed to take a fresh look at things."
