According to the Sheffield Star, Derby are joined by Hull City, Stoke City and West Brom in the hunt for Windass’ signature.

Talks have already begun surrounding his contract at Wednesday after he scored six goals and recorded two assists this season.

He came into form later on in the year which was one of the reasons why Danny Rohl’s side managed to survive relegation.

The striker has been at Hillsborough since January 2020 after he joined on loan from Wigan Athletic, a deal that was later made permanent.

Windass has become a bit of a favourite at Wednesday thanks to his impressive scoring record. He has 40 goals and 17 assists for the club and prior to moving, scored 23, 19 and nine goals at Accrington Stanley, Rangers and Wigan respectivley.

Derby are in need of more depth at the striker position as they have James Collins, Dwight Gayle, Tyreece John-Jules and Martyn Waghorn all out of contract in the summer.

Windass would be a nice addition to Paul Warne’s squad as he would bring some quality Championship pedigree to a team that are desperatley in need of more attacking options.
