Louie Sibley has been at Derby County for over 14 years of his life including the academy, however the 22 year old could now be on the move.

Rotherham United are reportedly interested in signing Sibley if he decides not to pen a new deal with Derby this summer.

According to former Independent and Telegraph sports journalist Darren Witcoop on X, Rotherham want to sign Sibley alongside Reece James and George Byers from Sheffield Wednesday.

Steve Evans’ side were recently relegated back to League One, swapping places with Derby; they are clearly intent on making it a short stay in the third tier.

It seems unlikely that Derby will let Sibley walk on a free as he was a big part of their promotion-winning side this past season.

The former centre midfielder ended up playing a key role at left wing back for the Rams and it could force him into a position change if he does re-sign with the Rams.

Paul Warne’s wing back system seemed to suit Sibley down to the ground.

The Rams revealed in their retained list that they are currently negotiating with Sibley on a new long-term deal after not yet agreeing a contract.

Sibley has made almost 150 appearances for Derby’s first team with his debut coming back in 2019 when he was just 17 years-old.

It would be a suprise to see the youngster leave Pride Park especially considering he has been a life-long Rams fan. However if, like Max Bird, he fancied a new challenge in his career then Rotherham could be route he takes.

Only time will tell to see what Sibley decides to do, but with interest racking up, Derby will need to act fast if they want to keep their man.
