John Eustace was recently sacked by Birmingham City in favour of former Derby boss Wayne Rooney

Former Derby County midfielder John Eustace has emerged as the early bookmakers favourite to take over from former Rams boss Nigel Pearson at Bristol City.

Eustace was recently sacked by Birmingham City in what was billed as a harsh decision by many. He had managed to get the Blues up to sixth in the Championship, their best start to a season for a number of years.

John Eustace made almost 60 appearances for the Rams over three seasons and ended up playing his last games as a professional for Derby.

He was replaced at Birmingham by former Derby player and manager Wayne Rooney who was in charge at Pride Park during the Rams time in administration.

He has lost his first three games in charge at Birmingham, leaving many questioning the club’s decision to shock Eustace.

When he was sacked by Birmingham, many believed that it wouldn’t take long for Eustace to land another job and it seems as though the interest is already there.

Bristol City are in the hunt for a new manager as they sit 15th in the Championship having lost five of their previous seven games sacking Nigel Pearson after he’d been the Robins’ boss since Febuary 2021. Pearson was Rams manager back in 2016 where he only survived 14 games.

Pearson had been in a row with Rams owner Mel Morris and with the team 20th in the Championship, he left the club soon after.

Another former Derby manager in the form of Gary Rowett is also on the list.
