Derby County have been interested in Josh Windass over the past two seasons

Derby County have shown interest in Josh Windass this summer, but it seems that they are likely to miss out on the Sheffield Wednesday striker.

Paul Warne is monitoring Windass who becomes a free agent at the end of June. Furthermore, Hull City, Stoke City and West Brom are all keen on the striker too.

However, according to Journalist Alex Miller, Sheffield Wednesday are nearing a contract extension to keep Windass at Hillsborough.

He has been with Wednesday for four seasons after joining from Wigan in 2020. He has since made over 130 appearances for the Owls, scoring 40 goals.

The striker has become a bit of a hero in blue and white scoring a number of goals which helped the Owls to promotion back to the Championship in 2023.

Before his success at Sheffield Wednesday, Windass had spells with Wigan, Rangers and Accrington Stanley.

Derby are in need of at least one more striker as they currently just have Conor Washington under contract as they are also negotiating with James Collins.

Windass, 30, would provide the Rams with a solid Championship-level goalscorer on a fairly cheap deal. However, as it seems likely that he will remain at Sheffield Wednesday, Paul Warne may have to look elsewhere for attackers.
