Derby County have already expressed their interest in Celtic youngster Bosun Lawal

Celtic youngster Bosun Lawal is a player in hot demand this summer by a number of Championship clubs.

The 20 year-old defender was on loan at Fleetwood Town last season and was one of the only bright sparks in what was a miserable season for the Cod Army. He made 42 League One appearances and scored six goals.

Lawal returned to his parent club Celtic this summer, but it wasn’t long before clubs began to swirl for his signature.

Derby County, Porstmouth and QPR are all targeting the defender this summer in the hope to land a long term deal.

However, sports journalist from the Sun Alan Nixon has taken to Twitter saying that Celtic want to evaluate the 20 year-old before considering selling him.

He said: “Celtic are likely to look at him in preseason first”, before any transfer decision is made. This means that the likes of Derby County will have to be patient if they are keen on landing the talented defender.

Lawal’s current market value is estimated to be around £300,000 and so any interested club would have to dip into their pockets should Celtic start looking at offers for him.

The Irish defender had previously been in Watford’s youth teams before moving to Celtic in summer 2021. He has since played for the B team 21 times, scoring six goals.

With Derby having depth needs at both defensive midfield and centre back, Lawal could provide a long term solution as he can play in a multitude of positions.

Paul Warne will certainly be keeping an eye on Celtic’s position on the youngster and will be hoping that they will eventually begin listening to offers for him.

However, if they decide that they want to keep him during preseason, then the Derby boss may have to look elsewhere for young talent.
