Derby boxer Sajid Abid is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career to date - as he prepares to box for the English title.

Abid, 28, faces Denis Denikajev down at the fabled York Hall, Bethnal Green, on September 23 for the vacant English super lightweight championship.

The Sinfin man is currently training in Wakefield and is no stranger to pressure situations having boxed on the undercard of Amir Khan’s fight with Billy Dib out in Saudi Arabia.

That night proved to be Abid’s only professional loss with five straight victories now advancing his record to 13-1.

Denikajev, who has 10 wins and one draw as a pro, was born in Lithuania but boxes out of Barking.

The 27 year old is the current Southern Area champion at super lightweight having beaten Idris Hill to claim the title last July.

He defended the belt with a win over Tom Ansell earlier this year - an opponent that Abid has also beaten.
