Storm Pia: Shocking scenes at Derby petrol station after high winds cause tree to collapse onto roof

A giant tree has been felled at a busy Derby petrol station as Storm Pia sweep across the country.

The main entrance to the Texaco forecourt at Five Lamps has been closed as the tree can be seen collapsed on the roof, obstructing the pumps.

Local business Penguin PR took the photo and posted it with a caption on social media saying: 'It's wild out there today, as this photo from Kedleston Road at Five Lamps shows. Stay safe, everyone!'

The photo was taken at approximately at 9.21am today (Thursday, December 21, 2023).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of strong winds across central and northern areas of the UK.

Weather forecasters warned there could be disruption to transport today as a result of the high winds. The timing is less than ideal as thousands of people are expected to hit the roads for the big Christmas rush.

The yellow weather warning is in force until 11:59pm tonight with grey skies, cloud and rain forecast for tomorrow (December 22).
