King Charles ascended to the throne in September 2022 after the tragic passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The British monarch’s coronation will take place on Saturday 6th May at Westminster Abbey in London.
The 74-year-old is set to don St Edward’s Crown, which was made in 1661 for the coronation of King Charles II, at the symbolic ceremony which formalises his role as the head of the Church of England.
Community events are being planned across the country to celebrate King Charles becoming the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey and Monday 8th May will also be an extra bank holiday. Pubs will be able to stay open for an extra two hours on Friday and Saturday of coronation weekend, while hosting street parties is also being encouraged.
Throughout the years the Royal Family have made numerous visits to Derbyshire with King Charles visiting Bombardier’s manufacturing site in 2012, while the Princess of Wales, Kate spent time talking to students at the University of Derby about how the covid-19 pandemic had affected them back in 2020.
