Your guide to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday services and parades taking place across the county

Remembrance Day is a time when the country comes together to remember those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. The First World War ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

Since then, November 11, or Armistice Day, has been enshrined as a day for people to reflect and gather to pay respects in an act of national remembrance. Events similar to Remembrance Sunday which are observed on November 11 include Veterans Day in the United States.

The day is marked with a two-minute silence at 11am which people observe in Britain, the Commonwealth countries and across Europe. Although Remembrance Day is on Saturday, November 11, this year, Remembrance Sunday services will take place on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
