A “spectacular” Peak District pub has been named among the top 10 in the UK for a winter weekend.
The Chequers Inn, in Froggatt, just north of Bakewell, has been named by the Guardian as one of the best in the country for a pint by the fire, followed by dinner and a bed for the night.

Named alongside pubs in other scenic parts of the country, such as Ceiriog Valley and Yorkshire Dales, the Guardian describes the Chequers as a “pleasingly traditional inn”.
A stone’s throw from Froggatt Edge, the Guardian’s travel writer Annabelle Thorpe thinks that the inn “offers some of the best views in the Peak District”.
She said of the Chequers: “Built in 1735, it has seven unfussy rooms (no dogs) and a refreshingly ungastro-ised bar, with a roaring fire, walls scattered with pictures and a wooden grandfather clock.

The inn has been owned by Jonathan and Joanne Tindall since 2002.
According to its website, rooms start at £130 for one night including breakfast.
