Items relate to the Friars Cricket Club and Kirk Langley Cricket Club in Derby where he was secretary for 29 years.

Items include manuscripts, meetings of minutes, members lists, team matches, press cuttings from match days, and opinions on cricket.

The earliest year of matches mentioned in documents is 1878.

The archive provides a snapshot of life lived in the 19th century, as documents from events also form part of the comprehensive collection.

Lists of attendees from fancy dress balls, and menus of food served from the events also form part of the lot.

There are also 13 hardback books, with an interesting anecdote in a book dated 1881 - 1883.

Someone had written an intriguing note on one page that says ‘Goldie fined 2/6 for taking more cake than he intended.’
