Local history books and artwork by renowned Derbyshire artist were highlights at big city sale

The selection of books included Christian non-fiction and local history

A Derby café closed since Covid opened for one weekend only, welcoming book fans for a flash-sale.

The exciting book event in the city saw The Sanctuary bookshop open its doors for one weekend only on March 16-17, 2024.

Based on Iron Gate opposite Derby Cathedral, the bookshop attracted fans seeking a bargain.

The Cathedral sold ex-bookshop stock consisting of new and second-hand books.

They included literature on Christianity and the church, other religions, children's books, fiction and non-fiction. Book prices started from 10p and brand new Bibles were £5 each.

Local history books were also significantly reduced.

Maxwell Craven’s A-Z Of Derby was on sale for £10, which is £5.99 cheaper than other retail outlets.

In addition to hundreds of books that were piled high on trestle tables and across the café, artwork, candles and decorative signs could also be found.

Prints by renowned Derbyshire artist John Grain could be snapped up, for £5 each.

The Sanctuary’s closure leaves two bookstores in Derby city; Waterstones on St Peters Street and Eagle Books on East Street.
