When the sun is out in Derby, I like to get out and about to make the most of the weather.
I visited Littleover Lodge Restaurant Derby as it is local to me.

Hide AdI have found on previous visits that it is a pleasant place to be and perfect for a lazy hazy Sunday afternoon.
The front entrance means you walk through the packed bar area which also has a television screening sports.
The waitstaff kindly accommodated walk-ins and we were soon seated at a table in the restaurant area towards the rear.
There was a Sunday carvery available, for which there was a queue, but we chose to dine from the main gastropub menu.

Hide AdIt feels like Littleover Lodge gets busier with every visit, something I suspect is down to completion of new housing projects nearby.
Glancing around the restaurant I spotted couples enjoying their Sunday afternoon, large tables of families and children in high chairs, a birthday party and more.
It appeals to a diverse crowd - don’t forget that busy bar area packed with sports lovers and those wanting to just sink a pint with mates.
I was in the mood for pizza, but this is not on the menu on Sundays.

Hide AdI chose the next best thing and ordered chicken tikka woodfired flatbread that came with a pot of slaw.

Subtly spiced chicken tikka chunks lay on a bed of fried Mediterranean vegetables.
I spotted sliced courgette, pepper and onion which made me happy as I love veggies and always try to sneak them into my meal every day.
The slivers of chilli were a welcome addition whilst the mint yoghurt had a lovely hint of sweetness to it.

Hide AdThe flatbread was decent and even better by spreading some of the silken vegetables all the way to the edge.
I swapped fries for beer battered onion rings which were large in size, however I found them to be just a little on the greasy side.
Dining partner ordered a small portion of The Lodge Indian sizzler which came loaded with a selection of spiced meats on top of chargrilled onions.

He especially liked the lamb seekh, whilst other meats on the platter were tandoori lamb chop, chicken tikka, chicken seekh and tandoor chicken wings.

Hide AdThis felt like a proper sizzler, because the onions were burnished brown and the ends boasted a gorgeous chargrilled flavour.
He ordered a side of malasa fries which was a big portion.

I think I was expecting fries to have some masala sauce on it.
However I found the dry powder seasoning fell in the category of regular chip seasoning similar to Schwartz cooking spices and good to eat, perhaps not masala-esque in flavour.
You get a lot in the sizzler for £13.50, and like the chicken tikka flatbread, I think this is great value for money.

Hide AdI am however curious about the size of the large sizzler, which cost £22.50, so I wonder how large can it be?
That is a dish on my list to try one day when I am super hungry.
I like visiting Littleover Lodge, because the staff are so lovely and friendly, and their warm smiles always make me feel welcome.
