Derby's latest 'top nightlife' rating can be added to other pretty cool accolades, including Lonely Planet's ‘top 10 destination’ and CAMRA's ‘real ale capital of England.’

The city of Derby appears to be a popular destination for clubbers - it has been voted in the top 10 cities for best nights out in the UK.

This ranking will make Derbians proud of their great city, after all, it was once voted a top 10 destination by Lonely Planet in 2011.

According to a newly released survey, Derby is the joint seventh-best, cheapest and safest city for nightlife in the UK. It came up against stiff competition from other major cities including Chester and Lichfield which also featured in the top 10 list.

Research commissioned by online casino Luck.com analysed data and considered multiple factors. These include the number of bars, clubs and pubs, the average cost of a pint and the average cost of a takeaway in the city.

Safety scores for walking alone at night were also used to determine ranking.

Derby’s Purple Flag status which recognises the city for providing a ‘vibrant mix of entertainment and culture while promoting safety and wellbeing of visitors’ could be seen as another reason to pay the city a visit.

MooMoo, Bar Fever, Mosh, Pop World and Blue Note are the main clubs in Derby which could have swung the vote for people rating the city for its eclectic nightlife.

Derby was also previously been dubbed the ‘real ale capital of England’ by real ale champions CAMRA. Craft beer served in quaint pubs such as The Exeter Arms, which won Best Pub at this year’s Marketing Derby’s Food and Drink Awards, could also be a draw for beer fans.

According to people who have visited Truro, the city also has a safety score of 70.35/100 for walking alone at night, the highest score in the U.K.

Other great nights out in the UK

Lichfield was the second-best city for nightlife. Located in Staffordshire, the cathedral city’s stunning parks, museums and nightlife are enough to warrant a visit.  Lichfield has 435 pubs per 100,000 people to choose from, the highest number in the top ten list. The average cost of a McDonald’s meal is also £5.50, contributing to a final score of 69.40/100.

Wrexham, a location with countryside landscapes and an up-and-coming entertainment scene, snapped up the bronze medal.  A pint in the Welsh city costs £2 on average, the lowest price in the U.K. Luck Casino says data shows Wrexham has a safety score for walking alone at night of 50, and there are 40 bars and clubs per 100,000 people, giving it a final nightlife score of 67.83.

Other top rated cities were Salisbury, home to the world-famous Stonehenge, Durham, which was dubbed by American travel writer Bill Bryson as a 'perfect little city’ and Chester, a city that is the famous location for Hollyoaks and which is also filled with striking medieval architecture.

Derby came joint with Bradford as the seventh best city for nightlife in the U.K.

This is followed by Bangor in eighth place with a final score of 60.60 and Perth in ninth with a final score of 60.35.

Chelmsford, with a final score of 60.31, is the tenth-best city for nightlife in the U.K.

A spokesperson from Luck.com said: “Truro is the best, cheapest and safest U.K. city for a night out, according to this new analysis. It is interesting, however, that the data exclusively names cathedral cities in England, Wales and Scotland, rather than larger metropolitan cities.

“This suggests partygoers can enjoy celebrations to the fullest in welcoming environments without paying higher prices that are often found in larger cities, such as London and Manchester.”
